Srinagar, Nov 27: Asma Lone after scolding critics for their guesswork about her separatist turned politician husband, Sajjad Lone's meeting with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, these days seems eventful in holding door to door campaign in favor of BJP in north Kashmir's Handwara constituency.
After Sajjad Lone whose meeting with Modi evoked widespread condemnation from certain quarters? His wife too is witnessing the same situation after the news about her campaigning gone viral on social networking site 'facebook'. Pertinently, Asma Khan Lone is the daughter of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Supremo, Ammanullah Khan's only daughter.
On one hand political pundits in Kashmir termed the move (campaigning for BJP) as a major jolt to separatist groups who have asked people to stay away from elections, while on the other disgraceful commentary for being a loyalist of BJP has put the credibility of Lone family at stake? Was he the first Kashmiri politician to have ever met the Prime Minster of India? Or for that matter any BJP leadership? Was there not favorable anticipation before the parliament elections towards the BJP voiced by Kashmiri leadership across the board? Do not political entities across the divide in Kashmir meet various functionaries of Government of India even at times for their personal requests? Why single out Lone?" Asma in her article in local English daily had written. "For too long recipients of political patronage and privilege from New Delhi, the entrenched political parties have little tolerance for shared political space wanting to keep it monopolized and at their bidding. They have in turn spun a web of political patronages of their own creating a coterie of cronies whose fortunes are linked directly to the interests of these parties," she said. What is wrong in seeking assistance as a Kashmiri for the betterment of Kashmir without overstepping the larger sentiment of its people? It's about time Kashmir sieving the reality from the contrived, self-interest from self defeat, however dark and painful it may initially seem." This time the situation seems to be entirely different as the people who had managed to assimilate Lone's meeting with Modi have started expressing resentment about JKLF Supremo for they termed exploitation of Kashmiri people under the garb of freedom. |
