Overloading goes on unabated in Samba, Traffic Police mute spectator | | | Neeraj Badyal
Early Times Report
SAMBA, Dec 21: Taking advantage of severe shortage of staff in the Traffic Department, commercial passenger vehicles continue to flout rules and regulations thus putting thousands of lives at risk in border district of Samba. Ironically, every year hundreds of passengers lose their precious lives due to accident caused by overloading in the private transport vehicles here in the district. The increased number of road accidents caused due to rash driving and overloading of passengers has become a serious concern for the authorities here. Matador operators in Samba are openly defying rules and indulge in overloading under the nose of traffic police, however, the men in blue turned a blind eye to the menace. A passenger from Samba alleged that the urge of earning more money has made the operators so greedy that they give it a damn to traffic laws thereby putting the safety of passengers as well as other commuters traveling in other vehicles on the road. Another passenger said most of the times matadors are seen overloaded, especially, on Samba- Sumb route on national highway. In the morning students are huddled in these matadors and some could be seen hanging out of the doors. Moreover, autos ferrying passengers on interior routes are also overloaded most of the times. Not only overloading but rash driving has also become a nuisance for the general public. |
