Nehru inaugurates Animal Care Centre | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 22: Secretary to Govt, Housing & Urban Dev. Department, Satesh Nehru today inaugurated Municipal Animal Care Centre for Animal Birth Control (Sterilization)/Immunization program for stray dogs in presence of Kiran Wattal, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation. Joint Commissioner (Adm), Kapil Sharma(KAS), Asstt. Commissioner (Rev), Executive Engineers, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Special Asstt. to Commissioner, Chief Transport Officer, Asstt. Executive Engineer and other staff of the Corporation. Representatives from NGOs working in the field were also present on the inaugural ceremony. Kiran Wattal, Commissioner speaking on the occasion highlighted the main features of the project which is being done under the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Commissioner appreciated the role of Dy. Commissioner, Chairman of the Society for taking keen interest in handing over the infrastructure to Municipal Corporation for making the facility functional. It was informed that an amount of Rs. 20 lakh have been incurred in upgrading the infrastructure that includes, Operation Theater, kennel, Tiling and other allied work. Further an amount of Rs 3 lakh have been expanded in making available the medical equipments etc to make the Centre operational. It was further apprised that population of 43,000 stray dogs have been recorded by the Veterinary Section of Corporation by undertaking extensive census and efforts shall be made to control the birth rate of these dogs in particular besides, handling injured and sick animals by providing medical care. Satesh Nehru, Secretary to Govt, Housing & Urban Dev. Department appreciated the efforts of Corporation in crating the facility within the short time and assured that all support be extended to make the program sustainable on long term basis. He also advised for tying up with the Animal Welfare Board of India and other associated agencies so that the aims and objectives for opening such Centre are achieved. Seema Koul and Dr. N.K. Verma representatives from NGO also spoke on the occasion and thanked the Corporation in establishing firs such Centre in Jammu region. |
