NC likely to sit in opposition | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21: National Conference is likely to sit in the opposition. According to the party sources, the party has decided to play opposition. The NC is likely to suffer its worst ever defeat. The party as predicted by all exit polls and also by the situation on the ground, will find it difficult to cross the double digit mark. The party was first trying to patch up with the BJP. But, latter it decided going against it. "Omar can't be the CM. He will not have the number to go to the chair this time. Two or three ministers is the best the NC will get. But, it will do more political damage to the party in the long run," said a senior NC leader. The party leadership feels that by sitting in the opposition it can work in much better way to bring about organisational changes and strengthen it rather than taking the comfort of the few ministries and do much more long term damage. "PDP had already nearly finished us. And if we decided to go with the BJP it would give handle to the PDP to push nail in our political coffin," said the leader. The biggest cause of the worry for now is how to retain its cadre and give hope to them that the party is alive and could stage a comeback. Sources said after the results, there could be major reshuffling and persons who draw solace and power from being close to the Omar Abdullah could be even axed from the party. "The party has suffered immensely under Omar Abdullah. If he is serious in rebuilding it, than he should give a sense that he is serious in sitting in the Assembly for the next six-year and take drastic decisions. It will send the message to the party cadre. It will be in the interest of the party so," said the NC leader, quoted above, but not wishing to be named. |
