Srinagar, Jan 31: After chairing a general party meeting on Sunday at her Gupkar residence, the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called a meeting of party legislator's tomorrow afternoon. The PDP legislator Mohammad Ashraf Mir told Early Times over phone that the Legislature meeting is scheduled to be held at 2 PM on Monday. "All the MLA's, MLC's and senior leaders are attending this meeting," Mir said. He said that we discussed important issues in the Sunday meeting. "Nothing about government formation was discussed. The main focus remained on the efforts to strengthen the party," he said.
He said that meeting also discussed organizational matters. "We discussed on how to take forward Mufti Sahab's agenda for peace and development," The suspense over government formation is growing denser leading to a lot of speculations doing the rounds in political corners every day. Sources said that the Monday's meeting has been called to discuss government formation. "The party members have authorized Mehbooba Mufti to take a final decision on the matter," sources said. The chief minister's post in Jammu and Kashmir remains vacant after the sudden demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, 2016. Sayeed was heading a coalition government with BJP since March 1 last year after the Assembly elections threw up a fractured mandate. Mehbooba was seen as the successor to her father, but she has maintained suspense over the issue and not yet staked claim to form the government. Some PDP leaders had said that Mehbooba wanted a review of the work done during Sayeed's 10-month tenure. BJP, with 25 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly, has made it clear that it wants the alliance to continue and was waiting for 27-member PDP to elect its Legislature Party leader. Reports say that the lawmakers have told Mehbooba to take feedback from the constituencies before taking any decision. Mehbooba before taking any call on government formation wanted the Prime Minister Narenadra Modi or BJP national president Amit Shah assure her over the implementation of the "Agenda of Alliance", sources said. However, there has been no success in this area so far.
