JAMMU, Jan 31: The J&K Employees and Workers Association has hailed the statement of Governor N N Vohra as regards the regularisation of daily wagers in the state. Association chairman Tariq Pampori hailed the governor for taking up the issue of regularisation of 3,660 leftover daily rated workers in the budget meeting with chief secretary B R Sharma and Empowered Committee chairman Navin Kumar Choudhary and ordering them to complete the regularisation of 3,660 leftover daily wagers up to March 1, 2016. "The governor's statement has come as a big relief for the daily wagers and their families who have been suffering for last 25 years. We appeal the governor to direct the empowered committee and the concerned administrative departments not to create any hurdles while regularising the daily wagers," he said. The governor had issued an order to the finance department on June 21, 2008, wherein the 'breaks' were condoned. That order be implemented to ensure that no delay was caused due to the breaks, he demanded. Some official files were gutted in fire incidents during turmoil in the Valley. In such cases, proof of FIRs should be treated as relevant and genuine document of the said year or period pertaining to the regularisation, he demanded. "The registration of those daily rated workers who were engaged before January 31, 1994 and are working continuously in the departments since then be done at the earliest. Their registrations have been delayed due to the negligence by the concerned departments," he alleged. Justice should also be done with the families of those daily rated workers who died while working in different government departments. All of them had rendered 10-20 years of service to their respective departments. Their services should also be regularised on priority basis, he demanded.
