BARAMULLA, Jan 31: Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) under the banner of North Kashmir Journalist Association-an amalgam of journalists associations of north Kashmir districts- held its presidential elections 2016 at Dak bungalow Baramulla in which 52 journalists of Baramulla district participated and Gulzar Ahmed Zargar was elected as president of the BWJA.
The election process was conducted by Chief Election Observer District Information Officer Nisar Ahmed Wani while as Kashmir Images' North Kashmir Bureau Chief Reyaz Rashid was Returning Officer who was flanked by Assistant Returning Officer Bashir Ahmed Sofi from information department.
Among 53 members of BJWA from Baramulla, Pattan, Tangmarag, Sopore, Rafiabad, Sheeri and Uri tehsils 52 journalists exercise their right to vote. Gulzar Ahmed Zargar of Munsif TV/CNI, Sajad Hussain ETV Udru and Shahid Imram KBC News participated as presidential candidates in elections 52 votes polled in which Gulzar Ahmed Zargar got 29 votes, Sajad Hussain 16 votes while as Shahid Imran secured 7 votes. Hence, senior journalist Gulzar Ahmed Zargar was declared as president of BWJA. As per notification, the election process started in the beginning of January and nomination papers for the presidential were submitted on 28 Jan, scrutiny of nomination papers was held on 29 at Dak bungalow Baramulla.
Speakers on this occasion expressed gratitude to the participating journalists for making the presidential elections a grand success and resolved to strengthen the association besides would fight for freedom of press at all levels. The election process was conducted under the supervision of senior journalists of north Kashmir Karamat Qayoom- Editor SNS, Sherbeen Radio Kashmir Srinagar and Altaf Baba, Ghulam Mohammed Greater Kashmir, Ghulam Hussan of Aftab/Alsafa , Anzhar Mahjoo, Mirror of Kashmir and S.Tahir-ul Haq of Early times, besides under the supervision of officials of District Information Office Baramulla.
BWJA will fight and work for resolving problems and issues of the journalists working in the district. It was also decided that fresh elections for parent association -North Kashmir Journalist Association would be held in near future after proper consultation with associations of Bandipora, Kupwara and BWJA.
