Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 13: After forming the government with BJP, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is all set to restructure the party.
Insiders within the party said Mehbooba has decided to appoint spokespersons and other officer bearers for strengthening the party. "The party has decided to appoint party youth leaders Waheed Rehman Parra and Firdous Tak as spokespersons for Kashmir and Jammu region respectively," a senior PDP leader said. "But the decision over appointment of chief spokesperson is yet to be taken. Many leaders are in the race for the post but the party president will take the final call," the PDP leader said.
Before the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP had Mehboob Beigh as chief spokesperson of the party. But sources said he (Beigh) was asked to refrain to issue any statements. "Although Mehboob Beigh has not been officially removed from the post but he has been told not to act as spokesperson of the party. The decision was taken after Beigh issued a statement in January that Mehbooba Mufti will take oath as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister any time after the end of the seven day official mourning for her late father," sources said. Similarly, sources said the PDP will appoint new general secretaries and other office bearers within the next two weeks. Before forming the government, the office bearers of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resigned from their positions to pave way for party restructuring.
Nizamudin Bhat, Rafi Ahmad Mir, VedMahajan, Mehboob Iqbal, party general secretaries and Political Advisor to president PeerzadaMansoor Hussain resigned from their posts. "These people won't retain their posts and there will reshuffle in office bearers," the PDP insider said. However, all the leaders have said they expressed full faith in the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti and have pledged support in the interest of party and people of the state. Party sources new faces may be given preference over some of the leaders who occupied important posts in the past. "There are some senior PDP leaders who will hold prime posts within the party. But Mehbooba Mufti will continue to remain the party president." The party is being restructured three months after the sudden demise of Mufti Sayeed, who had founded it in 1999 and was its patron when he passed away. Mehbooba Mufti was sworn in as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on April 4.
