Srinagar NIT crisis: SSP, others likely to be transferred | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 13: Due to the inept handling of Srinagar NIT issue, SSP and other officers in the district were likely to be transferred. The government was contemplating to transfer SSP, Srinagar, and other concerned officers, following their failure to handle the situation at NIT after a clash between local and non-local students a few days back. They were expected to be replaced by those who had the track record of handling such public issues in a more effective manner, the sources added. A 2006 batch IPS officer, who at present is the head of Srinagar district police, is said to have already completed two years of his service in the district. As state police circles were rife with the news that the Srinagar district police chief and others were going to be transferred to cool down the tempers of non-local NIT students, a junior of the incumbent SSP and some KPS officers of the valley had already started approaching the home department to try for their postings, sources said. Sources said the state government was likely to initiate an action in this regard as the Centre too had taken the matter seriously. "The agitating non-Kashmiri NIT students are also demanding the removal of police officers from Srinagar," the sources added. |
