NC stages protests, seeks rollback of NFSA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 18: National Conference on Wednesday staged a massive dharna in protest against deprivation of food grains to rationed population, ill-conceived implementation of National Food Security Act and erratic supply of power and drinking water in Jammu. According to press release, "PDP-BJP government has virtually abandoned the people and left them in lurch due to lack of vision and will to govern", said District President Urban, Dharamvir Singh Jamwal said while addressing the protesters outside Jammu Press Club this morning. The protesters were chanting slogans against mis-governance and administrative failure, while demanding rollback of the NFSA, describing it as anti people. "Before rushing to implement the NFSA, the coalition should have given a thought to its ill-effects on rationed population", Jamwal said, adding that Omar Abdullah led government did not allow its implementation because it was against the interests of people. He demanded immediate rollback of the Act and provision of ration to the rationees as per previous scale and in accordance of 2011 census. Prominent among those who joined the protests included Provincial President Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra, Provincial Vice President Choudhry Haroon, Satpal Lakhotra, Deepender Kour, both former legislators and others. |
