Early Times Report
Poonch, May 18: Poor cellular connectivity for the past few months has become a source of inconvenience for lakhs of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) subscribers in the Ponch district.
Despite BSNL being the first cellular service provider in the state and having the largest postpaid customer base across the state, the company, according to the subscribers has failed to come up to the expectations of the users here.
Subscribers of the BSNL said the service had gone from bad to worse over the past few weeks, largely due to its own 'unprofessional conduct' and 'slackness'. Not only the phone connectivity but the internet services too are not upto the mark as many internet café owners lamented this is taking toll of their business.
A Cyber Cafe owner Layaqat Taj lamented that the internet services remains off more than fifteen days a month. He said despite stiff competition from the private mobile service providers, the BSNL service had not shown any signs of improvement, rather it had become more 'irritable'. "Despite repeated complaints to the utter disappointment of the subscribers, every plea is turned to deaf ears, he complained.
Another subscriber Romesh Kumar said that once you dial a number one can only hear a recorded voice saying 'the number does not exist, please check the number you have dialed' or 'the number you have dialled is out of coverage area which leaves the dialer in a fix and check the dialed number in curiosity.
"BSNL subscribers are mostly switching over to other private mobile service providers largely after the Central government introduced the mobile number portability," said another irked BSNL customer.
The situation in rural areas is even worse than the urban areas, the locals said adding, majority of rural people have opted for private cellular service providers against the BSNL.
Locals demands that all offices should be function on private mobile network companies instead of BSNL as it never gets connected.
