Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 18: The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has directed the secretary of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) to appear in person before it tomorrow, ie on May 19, along with the relevant record and information to examine the alleged malpractices and irregularities committed during the past several years. SVC had received a complaint, alleging therein that some former vice-chairmen and senior JDA officials had misused their official position, causing a huge loss to the state exchequer for their own benefits. Purchasing of machinery without inviting tenders, violation of norms prescribed for regularization of plots, construction of hotel and banquet hall on prime state land by private parties were among other allegations mentioned in the complaint. SVC had earlier examined the allegations and then directed JDA to furnish relevant records and information to it. The report submitted by JDA prima facie revealed series of omissions and commissions on part of its officials, including changing allotment of plots from one colony to another without charging differential amount and non-cancellation of illegal allotments, resulting in huge loss to JDA. |
