Jammu, Dec 31: It is not the same this time. First the recession and then the Mumbai terror attacks, did dampen our spirits to celebrate New Year. We did empathize with the families who lost their loved ones and took out candle light marches in memory of their sacrifice. But then, we also have an inherent tendency to forget unfortunate events and live in the present. And that is exactly what we call human nature. Move on! In fact, most of us already have or at least are trying to do so and what better occasions like New Year for a fresh beginning. Though the bashes this year won't be as grand or flamboyant as previous years, but they for sure will help in diverting people's mind. Heavy booking at hill resorts shows that people are returning to the normal mode of life.

Sources said that Nayeem Akhter has applied for pre-mature retirement under Civil Services Rules. Significantly, this move comes at a crucial transition when new government is about to take over.

Jammu, Dec 31: A day after his name was cleared for the top post in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah today asked separatists in to respect the sentiments of the people. He said they they should strengthen the hands of the state government instead of resorting to hartals and bandhs.
Omar also wanted the UPA government to have a fresh look at peace efforts with Pakistan and work for quickly removing "misunderstandings".
