Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley appears to have already emerged as a 'safe' territory for the UN military observers. Considering Kashmir as the "disputed" territory, Muslim rebels and separatists have, more often than not, held the average UN official in high esteem. The Srinagar office of UN military observers has, on numerous occasions in recent years, witnessed unusual activity, with groups of anti-India elements flooding it with posters, leaflets and memoranda--all loaded with anti-India accent.

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed by the security forces in a fierce encounter in apple township of Sopore today, official sources said.
They said the encounter took place between militants and security forces during a search operation at Tarzoo, Sopore.
Two HM militants, including one identified as Ishtiyak Ahmad, were killed. Two A K rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in a gun battle with army in Sopore area of Baramulla district, while Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have apprehended three militants, including two Pakistan nationals, from two separate places across Kashmir Valley.
Reports reaching here revealed that two militants of HM were killed in an encounter with army at Tarzoo village of Sopore , this morning. One of the slain militant was said to be a Pakistan national.
Giving details of the encounter, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir that acting on a tip off 52 Rashtriya Rifles launched a search operation in the village during the wee hours, today.

BS Salathia, Additional Advocate General, was today elected President of Jammu Bar Association with a majority vote.
According to the Presiding Officer, VR Wazir, out of 843 total votes 782 votes were polled, of these Salathia secured 492 whereas Advocate BL Kalgotra secured 288 votes. For the post of Vice President, Advocate CM Sharma secured 411 votes whereas Advocate MU Salaria secured 30 votes.
Advocate Pawan Maini was declared elected as Secretary with 437 votes whereas Advocate Vikram Sharma got 342 votes. For Joint secretary, Mandeep Singh Jamwal was declared elected. He polled 393 votes whereas Vijay Vaid got only 211 and Adv Aleem secured 159 votes.

Jammu And Kashmir State Vigilance Organization today registered case against Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A official spokesman said that Kewal Krishan Gandotra, the then TSO Jammu landed in Vigilance trap during the course of investigation of multi-crore BPL ration scam.
As the investigation of a case FIR NO 14/2006- P/S VOJ was going on, it was learnt that Gandotra, has raised immovable and movable assets which are disproportionate to his known source of income.

Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu, Mr. Kartar Singh, today granted bail to one Rakesh Kumar Lakhnotra working in Excise Department and presently posted in Kathua, who was caught red-handed while accepting bribe by the VOJ on May 7 last.
Court called the report from the VOJ in which it has been reported that the applicant was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant in order to release the pensionery benefits. The bail application has been resisted by the Sr. Prosecuting Officer appearing for the VOJ.
