| Decimating Cong, Modi leads BJP to power | | | | Agencies
NEW DELHI, May 16: The BJP and its allies are set to form the next government under Narendra Modi, who is headed to the Prime Minister's residence at 7 Race Course Road. They now have a runaway lead with 328 seats and do not need any support to run a stable government. The Congress has been wiped out and has admitted defeat.
Recording its best ever performance in its 34-year existence, the BJP on its own was leading in 328seats, much more than the required half-way mark in the 543-member House, while its allies were ahead in 49 seats.
This will be the first time after 30 years that a single party is securing a majority on its own after the massive number of 419 seats Rajiv Gandhi got in 1984 in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination.
Set to take over the Prime Minister next week, Modi tweeted "India has won, good days are coming".
The BJP under Atal Bihari Vajpayee had scored an individual tally of 182 seats, both in 1998 and 1999.
On the other hand, the ruling Congress was struggling with leads only in 52 seats while its allies NCP (5), IUML (2), ...

KATHUA, May16: At the receiving end in the elections to the 16th Lok Sabha elections in every part of the country, the Congress in J&K replicated the trends in the state as it gave its worst ever performance here.
The severity of the crushing defeat could be gauged from the fact that one of tallest leaders of the grand old party of the country, Union Minister and former Chief Minister of J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad contesting from Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency, received biggest ever jolt in his forty year long political career when he was humbled at the hustings by none other than a little known politician, Dr Jitendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janta Party (...

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: All those who had opposed the exit polls seem to have gone into hibernation. All those who had ridiculed the correctness of the opinion and the exit polls have gone under the quilt.
And the exit polls, carried out by various agencies including some electronic channels, have been nearer the exact figure that has been given by the Election Commission. All these exit and opinion polls had predicted a big win for the BJP and a bigger win for the NDA.
If the poll trends are any guide the NDA may touch the magic figure of 300 when during the time Atal Behari Vajpayee, led the BJP, the saffron brigade had won 182 seats in 1999 to form the Government.
