JAMMU, Dec 13: Powered by the Olympians to their side, especially penalty corner expert, Jugraj Singh, Punjab Police is all set to become new champion, when they take on SSB in the final of the 61st All India Police Hockey Championship at K K Hakhu Stadium, here tomorrow. However, after losing in the semifinals, hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police and defending champion, Border Security Force (BSF) shall be playing against each others in the hardliner for the third and fourth position tomorrow morning at 9 am. Earlier, the tough side of BSF could not over come the mounting pressure from the star studded side of Punjab Police and caved in losing the tie by one goal to three. To the surprise of Punjab, BSF took the early lead when Hatinder Singh netted the ball in the very third minute of the match, but they could not defend the score. Punjab leveled the score in the 18th minute with Rajpal sounding the board. Afterwards Punjab dominated the turf adding two more goals to their tally to make it 3-1 on the board. Jaskaran (39th) and Jugraj Singh (69th) were the scorers. Earlier, in the first semifinal, played in the morning session, hosts J&K Police lost to SSB 0-4. Kishore Lakra was star striker from SSB, who netted three goals in the 39th, 46th and 66th minute while fourth goal came through Ajit Singh in the 10th minute. Witnessed by a healthy crowd, today's matches were officiated by the penal of umpires including Virender Kumar, Vijay Kishore, Jagit Singh Reen, Imtiaz-ud-Din, VP Sharma, Tabrez Sher, Anil Kumar, Naveed Zia, Mohd Ameen, Avinash Singh, Ripudaman, Deepak Kumar, Suresh Thakur, Dalbir Mehta, Charanjeet Singh and Sanjay Bhatia. |
