If Tilak was 'militant', what would be INA, Netaji? - Jammu Youth poser to PSC
12/14/2012 12:21:15 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: If Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a 'militant', as hinted by the J&K Public Service Commission, what would PSC call Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev? The way the Chairman PSC SL Bhat and Secretary TS Ashok Kumar justified the provocative blunder committed by the a paper setter in a question paper for the written test conducted by it on Sunday last in Jammu and Srinagar for the recruitment of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology of CAPD Department, one should not be surprised if in the next paper of PSC, these national heroes are dubbed as 'terrorists'. After all, the PSC is 're-writing' history of our freedom movement! Is it to please separatists and militant leaders of Kashmir?
Our youth who are witnessing with regret devastating effects of the militant movement in the State for over two decades must be 'educated' by this Constitutional body about the 'militants' and the 'terrorists' of the national movement unmindful of the hurt feeling of the nationalists by such avoidable denigration of national heroes by PSC.
Intriguingly, while the so called nationalist and pro- Jammu BJP is conspicuously silent over the row, the Congress party has come out openly in condemning the question. The party spokesman Ravinder Sharma in a statement has called for a probe in to this serious lapse.
All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference has also crticised PSC for naming Gangadhar Tilak and other freedom fighters as 'militants' and demanded action against the authorities for hurting sentiments of the people. Its President, HL Chatta said that the paper setter had no vision and respect for national freedom fighters.
Meanwhile, the youth of Jammu are genuinely agitated over this unsavory assault on national freedom fighters. Jagjeet Singh of Jammu University slammed the PSC Chairman Bhat for such inflicting insult to National Heroes. Demanding immediate action against the authorities, he was sore why the Governor and the Chief Minister are silent over it.
Vijay Kumar, another student, has put a poser to S L Bhat. He asked going by PSC's logic when his choicest paper setters would put INA and Netaji Subash Chander Bose in the category of terrorist outfits and Salah-u-Din. PSC can proudly draw parallel between INA and Hizb or Lashkar and still get away with it.
Umesh Bakshi, an unemployed youth of Udhampur, accused PSC of demeaning India's national movement and wonder what the civil society of Jammu is doing in the face this brazen attack on our freedom fighter. Meenakshi Arora, a PG in Modern Indian History and house wife, said that there was nothing like militants school of thoughts in Indian freedom movement. There were ahinsawadi and hard core activists. One school of thought was non-violence while another was armed struggle. The terminology of militants had come in to use only after terrorism took firm roots in Punjab and J&K. It is mischievous to equate militants with any of national freedom fighters.
Meanwhile, sources in PSC told ET that the Commission is vertically divided over this issue. Majority of the Members did not justify the slanderous question. Atleast, one member has strongly protested over the question in written test and sought action in the matter. When contacted, KB Jandial, the only member from Jammu who declined to confirm or deny whether he has written a letter to the Chairman on the sensitive issue but confirmed that he did not subscribe to the rationale for including the controversial question in PSC's question paper which has outraged the sentiments of the people.
