| Genuine migrants suffer as RC plays truant | | Allotment of flats at Jagti | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 13: In this neglected land where scams galore, the Relief Commissioner's office have not lagged behind. Instead of 60 migrant families that qualified for allotment of a flat at Jagti, the Relief Commissioner's office issued a list of 120 families. While the deserving families are awaiting allotment, the Relief Commissioner seems in no mood to initiate the process. Documents with Early Times reveal that the Police department after due scrutiny found only 60 families eligible for allotment of flats at Jagti. A letter PEWJ/RC-CHANNI/12/275 dated March 19, 2012 was sent to the concerned. It has been reliably learnt that an official who happens to be a relative of NC MP was responsible for framing a list of 120 families instead of 60 thus causing delay in allotment to genuine families. The said officer, sources in the Relief Commissioner's office said is involved in giving relief to fictitious migrants. He has been booked in FIR NO 15/2011 by the Crime Branch. The Crime Branch has completed investigation and recommended prosecution. This has been made clear to the Relief Commissioner vide letter No CHQ/FIR/15/11/CBJ/0294 dated October 6, 2012. The CB has also recommended prosecution of Zonal Officer, Imtiaz Mahmood. The genuine migrants feel dismayed over inclusion of Government servants in the list meant for meager income group. The list has around 70 such families. The entire process has put a question mark on the credibility of the Relief Commissioner's office. How were the applications invited? Who collected the applications? Can the families that do not fall within the ambit of meager income group be dropped? These are some of the questions which the authorities including the Revenue Minister have to consider. According to sources, the applications were collected by brokers on their own without following the criterion. They also collected money which makes it difficult for the Relief Commissioner to drop those who do not deserve the allotment. The genuine migrants are losing patience and if immediate measures are not taken now, the authorities will find them agitating the issue outside the Civil Secretariat. They have urged verification of all the families that have applied and allotment, if necessary, through draw of lots in one go. |
