Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: The NC led coalition government is making tall claims of treating all the regions equally in terms of providing infrastructure and facilities in the Health sector. But disparity continues with Jammu particularly in its main hospitals where situation reflects sad state of affairs. It shows the government is simply not interested in improving the health condition in government medical college and associated hospitals in Jammu. The government is interested in only giving attention to valley based hospitals falling under medical education department.
This is substantiated with a fact that when the government was quick to address the infant death in GB Pant hospital in Srinagar which rocked the summer capital in mid-summer. The issue of these deaths in G B Pant was intentionally raised in union capital New Delhi to get financial support for valley based hospital but no one is concerned for only pediatric hospital of Jammu Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital where the situation is no better.
On Wednesday, another death in SMGS led to demonstration by the family members and government only woke-up after the death and announced inquiry in the incident by deputy commissioner Jammu. But when will this inquiry report come and will any action be taken against guilty or the report will meet same fate like previous reports.
Sources in the medical education department that when money was brought to G B Pant hospital Srinagar, SMGS was given only peanuts which is not enough for addressing various issues in the hospital.
"The SMGS hospital is short of staff, building and funds, due to which health care is not improving. After repeated requests made to higher authorities but very little attention is being given towards SMGS," sources added.
The SMGS hospital in past has been in news for bad reason starting from child theft t infant death but the minister's concerned to please valley based ministers and chief minister and not pay attention towards deteriorating health condition in GMC and associated hospitals.
It has been observed that very few citizens of Jammu city admit their wards in the only government pediatric hospital with a fear that they might not get pure medical attention which they need. People from outskirts and other district head towards this hospital as having not enough money to afford treatment private hospitals. But Jammuites who can afford private treatment prefer not to head towards SMGS hospital.
The government doesn't take care of this situation and hasn't taken any concrete steps to address problems being faced by hospital administration and people having faith in government institutions.
