early times report
Budgam, Dec 13: Availibility of funds not withstanding, the power development department has failed to install a transfer in Banhar, Wathora village of Budgam district for the past nine months.
The funds for the 100 KV transformer were provided by Rajha Sabha member, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz. The village already has a 63 KV transformer but it develops technical snags every now and then especially in winter . Takingnoteof the hardships of the villagers, Soz donated an amount of 1.50 lakhs nine months ago buttill date nothing has moved.
The Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Chadoora told the villagers that this money was insufficient for 100 KVA transformer. According to market rates the 100 KVA transformer costs only 90 thousand rupees. The villagers said the PDD has to purchases, cables and other accessories so the entire amount was entrusted to the department.
"After few months the estimate was still not prepared as the PDD engineers said that we need more money for it. We again went to Prof Soz and requested him that the money he provided was not sufficient as per the PDD demands. Soz was gracious enough to donate more money for installation of 250 KV transformer.
The MP gave a letter in early June this year which was handed over to Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Budgam who was also very helpful to the villagers and forwarded the same to concerned PDD engineers within no time . But till date the transformer has not at all been installed. Pertinent to mention that It took PDD two months to prepare the estimate.
A villager Sayar Ahmad said the Chief Engineer PDD and DC Budgam were urged to intervene but the installation has not been done.
The locals blame the PDD for the delay. They have urged upon the District administration Budgam to look into their grievances "if our problem is not solved within a week we will block the main Srinagar- Chadoora road", the villagers threatened.
