| National leaders statements compounding Omar's job | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20: While Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is seen trying to douse flames of anger in the Kashmir valley over Guru's execution and over refusal of the centre to handover his body, various political leaders besides political analysts, intellectuals and social activists at the national level are being blamed for compounding Omar's plan. Sources in the National Conference said that the party leaders do not cherish people and political leaders who have been voicing criticism against the centre for having ordered execution of Guru without allowing his wife and son to have a meeting with him before he was sent to the gallows. Citing an instance, the NC sources said that such a belated stand on the issue was simply trying to create added problems for Omar Abdullah who is fighting a lonely battle against trouble mongers. They referred to the JD (U) Chief, Sharad Yadav's statement and said that instead of voicing his views on the issue 10 days ago he has started opening his mouth when the situation was improving in Kashmir. Sharad Yadav has said that it would be appropriate for the government to hand-over the body of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged on February 9, to his family. "It is my personal opinion that Guru's body should be handed over to his family as it is their legal right," Yadav has said. Alleging that the government did not handle the issue with the sensitivity involved in such a matter, he said when 26/11 Mumbai attack convict Ajmal Kasab's family was informed about his hanging in advance, why was Guru's family not told about it before-hand? NDA convener also took a dig at the government for sending the information about Guru's hanging to his family members through speed post that reached them after his execution. In such matters it is the right of the family to know about the execution in advance, he said. While expressing gratitude to Yadav and other leaders who have favoured returning Guru's body to his family members the NC sources wanted all these leaders to avoid raking up the issue at a time when the security scenario. |
