'Factional war' continued on Bhat's name | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 20: If latest political grapevine is to be believed Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif Ud Din Soz had come close to calling it quits ahead of filing of nomination papers by the party nominees for the MLC polls on Feb 18. Last minute intervention by the senior party leader from New Delhi saved the situation for the Congress party as Prof Soz had refused to sign mandate of the congress party in favour of Mohd Amin Bhat as desired by the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his meeting with the leaders of the party high command. Inside reports have revealed that the faction ridden congress party witnessed intense 'tug of war' between the two rival factions of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Sai Ud Din Soz as both the senior leaders had staked their claim in favour of their nominees for the MLC polls. The situation came to point of no return as both the senior leaders reportedly refused to kneel down from their stated positions over their personal choices for the MLC polls. It is no political secret that Azad camp had openly supported renomination of Mohd Amin Bhat while Prof Soz wanted nomination of his loyalist Muzaffar Hussain Parray during the preliminary rounds of meetings ahead of finalising names of party nominees. Even after the official party nominee Muzaffar Hussain Parray filed his nomination papers in the presence of Prof Soz and senior party ministers in the office of Returning officer sitting party MLC Mohd Amin Bhat, backed by Azad camp went ahead and fled his papers much to the discomfiture of the PCC Chief. The same were later on rejected during scrutiny by the Returning officer on Tuesday. Highly placed senior party leaders, who were privy to the ongoing tussle between the two factions of the state unit, revealed that Prof Soz had even refused to go to Jammu on Monday if the party high command had succumbed to the pressure tactics. It is learnt Prof Soz had also made it clear to the party high command that if Parray's candidature was rejected by the party high command than the AICC in charge Mohan Prakash should be asked to sign the nomination papers of Mohd Amin Bhat. Party Spokesman Ravinder Sharma and PCC Prof Saif Ud Din Soz were not available for comments. |
