R&B Minister faces allegations of nepotism in promotions
Undue favours to ineligible brother in law

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 20: Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani has been accused of extending benefits to his relatives in the promotions he lately affected in the department.
Recently the Department of Roads and Building issued list of 19 Junior Engineers (JEs) who were elevated as Assistant Engineers (AEs) whereas there was the list of around 50 waiting for promotions, the Minister only elevated 19 JEs.
It is being alleged that Wani did this to make way for his brother in law Ghulam Mohammad Banday, who was already working as incharge Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) with Executive Engineer office at Doda.
Banday's name appeared on number 16 and to get him on board, Wani only elevated 19 people and didn't take decision on other people waiting for promotions.
Sources told Early Times that for past one year Banday was working as AEE despite being only a JE.
"Near about 50 JEs were waiting promotions in the R&B Department for long time but the Minister only elevated 19 people so that his brother in law was elevated," sources said.
Sources also said that Wani, who is the second time MLA from Doda, played major part in getting the charge of AEE for his brother in law and when Wani became Minister of the same department, he elevated Banday in first go and put him as incharge AEE.
As per services rule of J&K Government, once a Government official is promoted he or she will have to be transferred, but the R&B Minister put aside these rules for his brother in law and didn't transfer him from the Executive Engineer Office Doda.
Sources further said that Wani was showing clear bias in allocating works in district Doda and has also stopped the payment of contractors who refused to tow his line. "Wani's men have started to harass these contractors unnecessarily for personal gain," said a source in the department.
