| Reduction in age of consent to 16 years is not acceptable | | Justice Verma recommendation | |

Kathua, Mar 15: State Committee Mahila Adhikar Sangathan President Santosh Khajuria- Demands a strong and effective law for curbing the crime against women, but the reduction of age of consent from 18 to 16 years for sexual relationship is quite condemnable and is biologically and socially a crime which leads the society nowhere. It is the 21ist century, women are more awakened and progressive than earlier but no socially and economically status and protection have been guaranteed so far by the government, resulting heinous sexual assault or other crime against women on peak.
This must be stopped and uprooted, and for this women should have to fight for their freedom for long under one banner and motive.
Sarve Dharam Sewa Simiti District Kathua president Sushma Mahajan: - The reduction of age of consent from 18 to 16 years is not good recommendation on moral and social ground for the development of women. This must be widely rejected and opposed. A 16 years old female is quite a child and not even could have better educational level.
The 16 years is a growing age, so at this age to liberalize young innocent brain for wrong thing legally, could bring not any better results for the society and it may lead to wrong direction.
The women are already trapped in this patriarchal system and are facing violence right since her birth. So effective and strong laws are needed to curb crime against women, instead of treating woman as an object, under the influence of western culture.
National Youth Project Coordinator, District Kathua Updesh Andotra: - The recommendations of Justice Verma are appreciable but reduction in consent age to 16 years for a girl is only a glimpse of male domination and its exploitive approach towards the women, which must be rejected.
Women are not an object, which could be bought by anybody, and even treated as cheap toy. Woman folk has wage a relentless struggle for their own dignity and respect and even complete freedom from this cruel male dominated society in which all laws and rules are framed with the men point view.
Principal KIDZEE Kathua, Mili R Sumbria:- Up to some extent it is great thing that few in favour of women is going be happened in legal frame work after the recommendation of Justice Verma on anti rape law, but reduction of age to 16 years shocked me and I openly condemned it.
No legal freedom should be given to any person to have sexual relations because it is not morally and socially good. I demand government have more and more political will to bring a stronger law for protection.
KIDZEE Counselor, Sahar Touseef:- The version to give a legal right to 16 year old girl to develop sexual relationship is not justified and genuine and even not in the favour of women itself. This is developing stage, this must be directed for the better of the society and its prosperity.
Vice Principal Shishu Modern High School Kathua, Priti Sharma: At the age of 16 years female could get sexual relationship at their own choice, if this is a legal right for a women then feel just a minute, how shameful and hammered on the dignity of a women it realized us.
Justice Verma's recommendation may bring some revolution in protection of women but it is sure this line of consent age could eclipse whole recommendations of Verma on anti rape bill. It must be eliminated. |
