Infamous Giri encounter: MLA reiterates demand for CBI inquiry

JAMMU, Mar 15: MLA RS Pura Gharu Ram today demanded CBI inquiry into the alleged killing of a youth from his constituency identified as Rakesh Kumar alias Giri in a controversial encounter which took place in Channi Himmat area in Jammu, two years back.
In the controversial encounter, Yudhvir alias Babloo was injured while Sumit Choudhary alias Sunny Baba, according to the Police fled away while firing on Police party. Rakesh Kumar alias Giri, who received bullet injuries had later succumbed in the hospital on November 21, 2010.
While Police maintained that Giri had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Nagar Singh alias Nago to eliminate key witnesses in infamous Amandeep murder case Sandeep Singh, TP Singh and Sudershan Singh Wazir and was killed in an encounter that broke out when he opened fire at a police party at a naka near Satyam resorts. Police also claimed that they were keeping a track of deceased's phone records which indicated about the conspiracy.
More than two years since that alleged fake encounter, the father of the deceased has still been running from pillar to post to get a CBI inquiry conducted into the incident to bring forth the truth, maintaining that it was a murder in cold blood by the Police.
"The family of the youth is demanding justice and I seek a CBI inquiry into the matter so that the truth can be dug out," said Gharu Ram during the question hour in the State legislative Assembly today.
Besides filing a petition in the Court seeking CBI inquiry, the family of the deceased also approached NHRC and the SHRC, but despite many a loopholes in the story put forward by the police, the erring police officers have evaded any action or even a unbiased inquiry.
The case has been a blur on the State police, but police itself or any other agency of the Government has not initiated an objective inquiry into the serious allegations on Jammu police.
The mother of the deceased in a petition had submitted before the court that she has firm belief that the encounter was fake and police had killed her son in their custody and then connected his murder with Amandeep's murder case. So it requires to investigate through independent agency other than the police and in this case the investigation of this case should be got conducted from the CBI because higher officers/officials are involved and they can influence any other agency in order to save themselves and tamper the evidence.
