Merger of J&K with India: NC the biggest hurdle
Party of Jinnahs
3/16/2013 12:45:04 AM

ET Plus Report
JAMMU, Mar 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's uncle and party additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal has done it again. He has not only endorsed the stand of his nephew Omar Abdullah that Jammu and Kashmir only acceded to India and not merged with it, but also has acknowledged that the National Conference (NC) is the biggest hurdle for New Delhi to merge Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union. "The biggest hurdle for New Delhi to merge Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian union is NC. However, we understand New Delhi's politics of deceit against us," the NC Jinnah Kamaal yesterday said, and added that "New Delhi over the years had done many things to check the growth of NC and eliminate the party".
Kamaal not only asserted that it was because of the NC that the State of Jammu and Kashmir could not merge with the Indian Union, but he also charged security agencies, separatists and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with conspiring against the NC, checking its growth and destabilizing the Government. "Security agencies, separatists and our political opponent PDP can party with the devil to destabilize NC. The past month's events stand testimony to that fact…New Delhi (read BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government) created PDP not to check our political growth but to eliminate us…They are hatching plans against us 24x7. They don't want to see a stable Government and make people resent our rule. They are doing these things indirectly as Congress is also a part of the Government," he said.
Earlier, NC MP Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri had stated that given the chance, Kashmiri Muslims would opt for "azadi" (independence) and shamelessly acknowledged that pro-Pakistan Syed Ali Shah Geelani had been suffering for the same cause for which Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah suffered and the NC was trying its best to reach the "final destination": Separation from India. Another NC MP Mehboob Beg has also been saying almost the same thing in and outside the Parliament and pouring venom on India and everything Indian.
The short point is that NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his uncouth uncle Mustafa Kamaal and NC MPs Rattanpuri and Beg have been carrying on a no-holds-barred campaign against India, Indian Constitution, Indian Army and such legislations as the AFSPA over the ground, party president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah has been operating behind the curtain. His March 13 New Delhi statement that the "AFSPA has to go" should leave none in any doubt that these Kashmiri NC leaders have been systematically complicating things for India to advance their pernicious agenda.
Indeed, these NC leaders are behaving like Jinnahs. The only difference is that while Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the father and founder of Pakistan, was backed by the British Government, these Kashmiri Jinnahs are being backed by the Congress party. It is the Congress party, which has, according to many, including Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, destroyed India, which has helped the NC vitiate the whole atmosphere in the State in general and Kashmir in particular.
And it has been happening, particularly since October 1947. Three alliances - alliance between Sheikh Abdullah and Jawaharlal Nehru, Farooq Abdullah and Rajiv Gandhi and Omar Abdullah and Rahul Gandhi --- have only helped the NC hold Kashmiri Muslims aloof from the national mainstream but also raise a very high wall of hatred between Kashmir and New Delhi. The Congress is the main culprit. It is the mother of most of the ills afflicting the nation, including the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. It's no wonder that many in India want to decimate the Congress and bring to power someone who is committed to the country and eradicating Jinnahs. They believe, and very rightly, that in the demise of the Congress lies the country's salvation. They also believe that the Congress has never allowed Indians to develop as a nation by pitting Hindus against Muslims and the vice-versa and by setting one Hindu caste against another. It is very difficult not to endorse this view considering the manner in which the Congress has conducted itself ever since its formation in December 1885.
