JAMMU, Mar 15: In what can be seen as commensurate to its interests, the NC led coalition Government is sticking to what it termed PDP's boycott as party's 'own decision', observation as it has yet not made up mind nor made any attempt to ensure participation of the principle opposition party in Legislative proceedings which went on for the third consecutive day on a dull note without participation of single largest party in opposition. PDP too is on reluctance mode as the leadership says boycott is a conscience decision contending the opposition is absolutely not heard nor is Government keen on solving public issues of urgent nature.
"The ruling party is only muzzling our voice in the House ….there is no regard for rules in the House nor respect for political ethics ……the way Government is conducting itself only establishes that it wants to undermine the character of elected representatives…..", said senior leader of PDP and MLA Bandipora Nizam-u-Din Bhat. Nothing comes out of the Assembly as the Government is not willing at all to discuss the public grievances of urgent nature…they just want discussion on any matter just for the sake of discussion, PDP leader said adding that "no body listens to us even if we try to highlight loopholes in any system generally" .
PDP leadership also looks at the entire scene as Government not responding to them nor taking any corrective measures on the moves they (Government) falters. "It is the duty of the Government to see why the major opposition party was forced to boycott the session …..it is their duty to make necessary corrections …it is unfortunate that instead of doing so they have gone on to the extent of projecting it as PDP's 'own decision..", said another legislator of the party. The party legislators and the leadership feels there is no space for any 'saner' voice in the Assembly. Even if issues are raised out of assertion , they are not responded with equal attention , leave alone with a sense of commitment and duty. The leadership also feels there is no mutual understanding in the House nor any efforts are made in that direction.
With Government showing cold response to the boycott decision of PDP , the party is perturbed the way the Government and some NC Ministers are trying to project the matter as something that doesn't deserve any attention. Pertinently, NC Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar had uttered the other day in the Assembly as PDP's 'own decision' in deciding not to attend the Assembly while he responded to intervention made by Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir that PDP's presence in the House as main opposition party was mandatory. Sagar was heard as saying the ball is in their court….it is their decision so they should come and participate in the legislative proceedings. Interestingly, when a senior most legislator and PDF president Hakim Mohammad Yasin today raised the matter again in the House while seeking attention and comment of Law Minister over the serious matter, the Government chose to avoid and ignore the call.
