| 72 developmental projects in J&K exceed target dates by 5 yrs | | | Navneet Dubey
Jammu, Mar 15: Notwithstanding government's tall claims of work culture and its commitment of sticking to deadlines , as many as 72 developmental projects in the state have exceeded target date of completion. "As many as 72 numbers of developmental projects have exceeded target date of completion beyond the period of 5 years", Minister of Planning said in a written reply to a question by Chaman Lal Gupta in the Legislative Assembly today. Chaman Lal Gupta has sought the reply on the number of major developmental projects which are hanging for the more than five years despite spending over Rs. 2 crore on them till date. Giving the breakup, the Minister incharge said that 11 projects undertaken by ERA, 12 projects under JKPCC PWD(R&B) sector, 2 projects under Higher Education, 20 projects under Power Development Department and 27 projects under Health department have exceeded the target date. Minister further informed that no projects were abandoned despite spending 2 crores. "However work on 12 road projects under PMGSY have been temporarily stayed due to the stay got obtained by M/S GVPR Engineers Ltd. Hyderabad from the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu", he said. The construction of over head tanks, ground level services reservoirs and other allied works in Jammu undertaken by ERA is likely to be completed by August 2013 and the reason for the delay was poor capacity of contractor. Another delayed project under ERA is replacement of worn out pipes and strengthening of distribution network and here too was reason for the delay was poor capacity of contractor. Also erecting of 44 towers for 132 KV Barn canal transmission line spreading across 13 kms has been delayed by 13 long years which is likely to be completed by June 2013, that too subject to availability of funds and clearance. The main reasons for the delay in completion of projects are non-performance of contractors and delay in eviction of encroachments. |
