Death of woman, newly born spark protest in Kishtwar
Doctors’ negligence alleged

Jammu, Mar 15: People registered strong protest following death of a woman and her newly born baby at District Hospital Kishtwar.
The protesters describing the reason of death to non-availability of doctors at district hospital Kishtwar & today created a ruckus inside the hospital premises.
The deceased has been identified as 25 year old Shakeela Begum wife of Ashiq Hussain Sheikh Resident of Dumber Cha-troo some 45 KM from Dist-rict Headquarter Kishtwar.
The agitating people also blocked the main road outside Police Station Kishtwar for several hours disrupting the normal vehicular movement on the every busy Shaheedi road.
The victim was brought to District Hospital Kishtwar in a private vehicle and admitted in the hospital at around 3.30 AM today for acute labour pain.
The angry relatives said that only one nurse was available in the hospital. They said the a doctor visited the hospital after two and half hours and put her on drip. They said the doctor left her abondan after putting the patient on drip.
They said, the nurse present on duty attempted a delivery process and the deceased lady give birth to a child. They said that within few minutes after giving the birth to a child, both the lady and the baby turned pale and died within few minutes.
A day before Tahira Begum Wife of Shokat Hussain Sheikh Resident of Indra Nagar Kishtwar died under similar circumstances.
The protestors lifted the road blockade only after the assurance from Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Madhu Khullar. She talked to the agitating protestors over telephone and assured them action against the guilty.
The incident exposes the implementation of NRHM scheme in Jammu and Kashmir. Under sponsored schemes NRHM and Maa Tuje Salam, central government provides funds worth over 1000 Cr to state government every year for improvement of health care facilities as well as care of pregnant women’s and their newly born children’s.
When contacted Dr. Ghulam Mohammad Naq-eeb, Medical Superinte-ndent District Hospital Kishtwar said that Director Health services Jammu has already ordered a probe into the deaths.
He said that as per the Director Health services Jammu, Deputy Director Headquarter will head the inquiry committee, while CMO Kishtwar Dr. Ajay Gupta, senior Gynecologist and he himself will assist the inquiry committee in its probe. He said that he along with team of doctors arrived at hospital on time, but said that the patient collapsed within no time.
He also denied the allegation leveled by the agitators that no doctor was present on duty when the deceased lady was brought in hospital.
