SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Ridiculing the allegations leveled against the minister for agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir in the case of army pay off to topple the state government in 2010, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz today said the controversy can be set rest only when a thorough probe is carried out in the allegations.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Prof. Soz said that there is no need for Mir to resign from the council of ministers as on date since nothing has been proved against him. He said the allegations leveled through a newspaper report have to be verified adding that picture is yet to become clear.
"Ghulam Hassan Mir has already termed the allegations as baseless and there is no harm in listening to his point of view. Law will take its own course and by that time it is better to adopt wait and watch policy. There are people who are demanding a thorough probe in this matter. I second this demand and believe that matters can be set right only when a fair probe is carried out," said the PCC President.
When asked about the resignation of Mir on moral grounds as he has been nominated by Congress in the council of ministers, Prof. Soz said there is no need for the same at present. He said that such things can be thought off only when the probe is completed and Mir's role is established in the whole affair.
"The allegations have been leveled through a newspaper report and the contents of the newspaper report have to be checked before a final decision is taken. As on date we should listen to Ghulam Hassan Mir and allow him to continue as the agriculture minister of the state. It is due to this reason that I am demanding a complete probe in the incident," said the PCC President.
Prof. Soz said that former army chief, General V K Singh was hogged by controversies while has was heading the armed forces of the country. He said controversies continue to hog former army chief even after joining politics. He accused Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of spreading false propaganda adding that introduction of Food Security Bill and Land Acquisition Bill are set to bring about a revolution in the country.
It would be in place to mention that a report published in a New Delhi based newspaper had said that former army chief General V K Singh had paid money to an army unit in order to topple the coalition government in Jammu & Kashmir. The report had also mentioned about the role of agriculture minister saying that Mir was paid Rs. 1.19 crores to topple the coalition government in the state.
Talking to media persons on this occasion, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Special Representative of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Minister for Industries, PWD, Parliamentary Affairs and Science & Technology, Haryana said that enactment of Acts like Right to Information, Right to Education, Right to Employment, Right to Forest Produce, Right to Succession for Women, Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition and Right to Food and Nutrition have brought about a revolution in India.
"The existing Land Acquisition Act has been improvised to give more relief to the farmers and the labourers associated with the farming. A proper rehabilitation and resettlement package has been framed up for the people whose land has to be utilized for any development project being taken up by the government," said Surjewala.
The Haryana minister while listing the salient features of Land Acquisition Act said that the farmers affected in the urban areas would be paid double the rate as prevalent in the market if their land is used for any development programme while as in rural areas the farmers would be paid two to four times of the market rate for their land holdings.
Surjewala said that landless labourers associated with the farming would also be stakeholders and they too would be given fair compensation once the land with which they are associated is used for development purposes. He added that it is the endeavour of Congress party to frame a social assessment report of the developmental projects under the Land Acquisition Act.
