Jammu, Sept 21: Future of more than five thousand students who are pursing various para-medical courses, seems uncertain as the scheduled examinations scheduled to be held on September 16 are rescheduled and shall now be held in October.
Sources at State Medical Faculty (SMF) Jammu, informed that all the arrangement to conduct exam were put in place.
Meanwhile, Health and Medical Education Department constituted Para-Medical Council to carry forward the affairs of Para-Medical Institute.
"The examination of paramedical students have been delayed by one month yet again putting the career of thousands of Paramedical students enrolled in various paramedical institutes of Jammu and Kashmir at stake", sources said, adding that all the preparations of examinations were completed and the scheduled of paramedical examination on 16 September but the erstwhile J&K state medical faculty which has ceased to exist is not authorized to conduct the examination of paramedical courses.
"Over 5000 students undergoing various nursing and paramedical courses in paramedical institutes including private and Government-run Ancillary Medical Schools (AMT) schools have been left in quandary", sources said.
"Government has put our careers into jeopardy. We would have been preparing for the final year of our course, but due to insensitive administration examination of the first year is yet to be conducted," said Renu Sharma, a student studying in a paramedical college.
She said their precious academic time will be lost as they cannot apply for further studies if their course is not finished on time as admissions begin in outside colleges.
Not only delay in examination students also criticized the SMF for messing up their course syllabus.
"The syllabus for our course is not bifurcated. For first year questions are asked from that part of the syllabus which either is not taught in the first year or cannot be covered in one year. At least 30 per cent of the questions are asked from the uncovered syllabus as a result students fetch poor marks," said, Pooja, another student. SMF has not framed a system to conduct biannual or supplementary exams for those students who fail during their two-year course.
SMF president and Director Health Jammu, Dr B S Pathania the examination said that the scheduled of exam has changed. "Health and Medical Education Department constituted Para-Medical Council (PCM) to carry forward the affairs of Para-Medical Institute and same will conduct the exam in October", he added.
