Omar gets life with damning report on Army Chief

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 21: The allegations against former Army chief Gen VK Singh, reported in a daily, will have a damming effect on the reputation of Army especially in Kashmir and may give fresh lease of life to politically bewildered chief minister.
According to sources, the technical unit, a part of military intelligence, was set up by the former army chief only after approval by the Prime Minister's Office. The proposal was first cleared by the ministry of defence and then by the PMO. Gen Singh has also served in the valley and had knowledge of different agencies working there, especially those funding the separatists. Gen Singh was first made as an enemy when three youth had allegedly died in Army firing.
Gen Singh had in an interview latter had said the youth didn't stop when they are asked to do so and it resulted in action by the jawans posted there.
The incident was followed by massive unrest in 2010 summer. About 100 youth had died but in no action a single person died in firing by the Army. But latter Chief minister started telling that Machil was the trigger.
And now with these allegations, National Conference has now again started trumpeting the same and now it will play it out as Army was responsible for the unrest in the valley.
It's what NC had been wanting and the report has given it a God send opportunity. NC has been consistently targeting Army on one pretext or the other. NC leader Mustafa Kamaal has been leveling all sort of baseless allegations against the Army but NC leadership didn't stop him from doing so and in fact has been encouraging him with its silence.
Another report has appeared in the same daily, suggesting that Army was tapping the phones of chief minister.
"There is definite agenda in these stories. Both project Army as enemy of Kashmiri and Omar the sole guardian of their rights. It's deliberately aimed at saving Omar," said a senior army official wishing not to be named.
The army has saved lives of Kashmiri with its sacrifices. A vicious propaganda is always unleashed on it and it will get more pronounced with these reports.
"Gen Singh was cracking on arms dealers and their agents. They might be involved in this leakage. And why Omar is surfacing along with suggested arms dealers is also a thing to be probed and truth be brought out," said a senior official.
