Wooden bridge connecting Sufi shrine in shambles

Kishtwar, Sept 29: Bhanderkot village situated some 12 kilometers from Kishtwar district headquarters and famous due presence of historical shrine of Sufi saint Shah Zan-ul-Abidin (RTA) and a temple, but the only bridge which connect it with district headquarters is in shambles, threatening the life of thousands of villagers who crossed the bridge. The wooden bridge was constructed some 100 year ago over mighty river Chenab, but presently has become a death trap and also a cause of concern for the local people. "The wooden planks used in construction of the bridge have rotten, inviting threat to life", villagers said, adding that GREF has taken over the construction work of Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar road project, some 15 years ago and the said bridge was also coming under the ambit of the said road project.
They rued that despite several requests and protests by the local people and drivers, the GREF authorities have failed to construct it.
