| Increased infiltration attempt : Security beefed up across Kashmir valley | | | Mustansir Srinagar, Sept 29 : Following increasing attempts of infiltration by militants from across the border in North Kashmir and a sudden spurt in militant activities in Valley, the government has sounded alert and security has been beefed up to thwart any possibly attack. Srinagar city and outskirts are being manned by huge contingents of police and CRPF at all important points and checking of vehicles has been increased. Sources said the security forces have increased checking at different entry points to Srinagar City following the rise in infiltration attempts near LoC in Keran, Tangdar and Machil sectors of Kupwara district. "Probably some militants managed to sneak into this side and it is said that 2-3 militants made their way to Srinagar City" a senior police official said. Police and paramilitary CRPF men could be seen carrying out frisking of vehicles particularly LMVs in most parts of Srinagar following the reports that militants have entered city and some unknown persons have stolen a motorbike from Srinagar City last evening. Security along Pantha Chowk-Parimpora bypass has particularly been increased and besides local police and CRPF, BSF personnel could be seen carrying out frisking of vehicles and two-wheelers at Nawgam Chowk, Sanatnager Chowk, Hydepora Chowk, Tengpora bridge and Bemina. At certain points consortium wires have been erected and the vehicles entering into Srinagar through different entrance points were also being thoroughly checked. The additional deployment of forces and police was made at several places. A Police spokesman said that a black color motorcycle bearing registration number PB58/423 has been stolen from Bulbul Bagh area in Srinagar. The beefing up of security has come just a day after militants attacked a Police Station and Army camp in Kathua and Samba area of summer capital Jammu. |
