| NC-Cong chasm rules out pre-poll alliance possibility | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 29: Cong-National Conference relations have been further strained with the former questioning the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that accession of the State with the India was conditional. Congress minister Sham Lal Sharma, without naming the Chief Minister, had said that those who take oath, for being elected, on constitution shouldn't say such things. He also said if such leaders still consider Jammu and Kashmir disputed territory then should rather leave their chair and fight for its solution. The minister had taken the bull by its horns. He had hit spot on at the NC , particularly the Abdullah family, which has been clamoring all along that J&K is a disputed territory while themselves enjoying power for all together. Sham Lal had earlier also taken on the National Conference. He had first said Jammu shouldn't be ignored at the expense of appeasing Kashmir and if relations are to be severed for it then they should be ready. He was the only Congress minister to publicly take a stand against gimmicks of Engineer Rashid in the assembly over the issue of Afzal Guru and said in the Assembly that if NC is not interested in coalition then they should walk away. Sham Lal had now exposed the hallow claims of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had all along been enjoying power at the expense of Congress and by running his own party as his personal fiefdom without giving any care for its even ministers, leave alone MLAs or leader. Congress, especially Sham Lal Sharma has toughened its stand, as it knows that in coming elections, it has a chance of emerging as the single largest party. There is also a feeling in the part that it has to take tough stand on important issues as it might face a Modi wave which could spoil its chances. Sham Lal being a cabinet minister and his views on certain issues can't be taken in isolation from the party. The state in-charge of Congress, Ambika Soni has also expressed displeasure over the lingering of the issues which should have been solved long before. All these points to growing chasm between to partners also rules out possibility of any pre-poll alliance. |
