Employees, state government at loggerheads as former renew five days agitation programme

SRINAGAR, Sept 29: A day after state government threatened to take action against the government employees who go on strikes and resort to agitation, a faction of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) today renewed its five day protest programme starting from October 1.
Employees Joint Action Committee headed by Abdul Qayoom Wani in a meeting said the government employees would not be cowed down by the 'dictatorial' orders and diktats passed by the state government. The meeting decided to fight tooth and nail the 'anti-employee' policies of the state government more so light of protest programme starting from coming Tuesday.
The EJAC-Q leaders and other employees present during the meeting threatened to expose the politicians who spend lavishly while enjoying benefits and perks at the cost of eating into the basic demands of common masses especially government employees. The meeting accused the state government of backtracking from its promises made with the government employees from time to time.
"Without wasting any further time the state government should fulfill the agreement reached out with government employees on September 15, 2011 and ratified on July 8, 2012. EJAC leadership and government employees have been compelled to come on roads and lodge strong protests in support of their genuine demands," said the meeting.
It would be in place to mention here that following failure of their talks with state government Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), an amalgam of various employee organizations had on September 27 gave a call for fresh phase of agitation starting from October 1. The agitation includes pen down strike for two days on October 4 and 5.
According to the protest programme on October 1 the JCC leaders would protest outside Civil Secretariat while as inside the Civil Secretariat the protests would be led by JCC Convener, Rauf Ahmad Bhat. Protests would also be held outside the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
On October 2 the employees would gather at Sher-i-Kashmir Park and carry out evening march towards the residence of Chief Minister. Evening protests would be carried out at the Civil Secretariat and Jammu as well. On October 3 the employees would march towards the legislative assembly in order to raise their demands. There would be complete pen down strike on October 4 and 5.
As soon as the JCC announced its programme the state government threatened to take action against the government employees who proceed on strike or resort to agitation. It also threatened to invoke the principle of 'No Work No Wages' against the government employees who are on war path with state government.
