EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 29 : National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged a demonstration against the growing Naxal activities in Jammu and Kashmir and urged the state government to take immediate remedial measures to detect and stop these silent Naxal cells operating in the state.
Hundreds of NSF activists led by President Sukhdev Singh assembled Jammu University and raised slogans against the Naxalism and its sympathisers. They requested the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take an overall review of the growing Naxalism in the state and direct all security agencies to identify its sympathisers.
They also torched the effigy of Naxalism and extended full support to all the security agencies in identifying the Maoists in urban as well as rural areas.
Addressing the protestors, the NSF president said the Maoists and their sympathisers are working under a clear cut strategy to penetrate the educational institutions, in towns and cities, unorganized labour, youth, educated unemployed, intelligentsia and the middle class.
"They are specifically targeting the unemployed youth, and people from the marginalized section of the society who are susceptible to their ideology and can be easily manipulated into executing their plans. There is a surge in naxal activists in all educational institutions particularly colleges and universities which is a cause of concern for any healthy society. There is a need to put a check on such activities," Singh said.
He also voiced his concern over involvement of some teachers in encouraging these activities on various educational institutions and said that the heads of these institutions should take disciplinary action against them.
"There are instances where the teachers are inciting educated youth for following Naxalism and supporting its ideology. The Maoists are steadily trying to make a base in rural areas to penetrate unorganized labour, educated unemployed and the middle class. The government should ban all such unlawful activities by detecting and stopping these silent naxal cells operating in the state without wasting time," Sukhdev Singh said.
Among those who were present in the protest included Akshey Sharma, Vikram Madhyal, Barket Ali,Hari Kumar, Bhupinder Singh Narinder Singh, Reshikesh Rana, Amit Sharma, , Manmohan Singh, Varinder Singh, Sanjeev Kumar and Abhishak Sharma.
