Kishtwar, Oct 4 : Minority community in Kishtwar District today observed complete shutdown on the call jointly given by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Sanatan Dharam Sabha Kishtwar over the alleged torture of 17 year old Ajay Kumar son of Sewa Ram resident of Begana Kishtwar by SIT probing August 9 Kishtwar violence. All the business establishment and private institutes run by the minority community remained closed, however there was no impact of shutdown on government offices where the attendance of the employees was normal, beside traffic also plied normally on roads. In view of the shutdown call, administration and police had made elaborated security arrangements to deal with any law and order problem. There was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the District. Meanwhile Kishtwar police today denied the allegation leveled by the family members of Ajay Kumar against SIT. A senior police officer in Kishtwar while reacting to the news item published in "Early Times" said that Ajay Kumar was not a minor as was claimed by his family members. "Ajay Kumar was holding a driving license and as per the record, he (Ajay) is more than 18 years and hence the question of his being a juvenile does not arise" said the officer. He said that neither any police personal nor any official from SIT tortured him during questioning and added that that SIT is verifying the role of Ajay Kumar in August 9 violence. He said that after his name surfaced during the ongoing investigation, he was summoned by the SIT for questioning on routine bases. He said that SIT is probing purely on the basis of evidences and added that the investigation is being conducted within the ambit of law. "No innocent person will be harassed in the name of the investigation--- I urge upon people not to pay any heed to the rumors" police officer said. He also urged the people to help the Police and SIT in investigation.
