| BJP, NPP legislators walk out from Assembly after raising Kishtwar, Keran issues | | Govt acts as mute spectator without issuing any statement | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Legislators of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) staged a walkout from the legislative Assembly after failing to get response from the Government over the communal clashes in Kishtwar on the Eid day and also on the recent infiltration bid by the militants in the Keran sector of Kupwara district. As the question hour began Ashok Khajuria of BJP stood up and raised the issue of torture of a boy belonging to the minority community in Kishtwar district of Jammu division. The BJP legislator said that minority community is being driven out of Kishtwar and the State Government has failed to give them a sense of security. "It is highly unfortunate that State Government has failed to respond to the demands of the minority community in Kishtwar. Recently a boy of minority community was tortured badly by the police and he had to be shifted to Jammu for treatment. Despite the gravity of situation the Government has failed to come to rescue of the people and they are keeping mum on this issue," said Khajuria. Some of the BJP members were carrying placards in their hands and they were joined by legislators of NPP who too demanded Government to come out with a statement on the Kishtwar incident. Both BJP and NPP legislators were interrupted by speaker Mubarak Gul who asked not to incite communal passion by saying that minorities are unsafe in Kishtwar while as members of majority community are safe. The BJP legislators accused Pakistan of fomenting trouble in Kishtwar and also lamented the lackadaisical attitude of State Government towards the genuine problems of minorities in Kishtwar town. The BJP legislators raised slogans like Pakistan Murdabad, Police State Hai Hai and this did not go well with the independent legislator from Langate Engineer Rashid. Jugal Kishore of BJP also was quite vociferous while demanding action against the police personnel who meted out torture to the boy of minority community. Speaker once again intervened and said that since the issue is critical one the members should give time to the Government to come out with a statement on the issue. The speaker said that it would not be prudent for the Government to make a statement on the issue since they are not aware about the facts at present. He said if some Minister makes a false statement he can lose his job and same holds true with a member if he misleads the house by providing wrong information. NPP legislator Harshdev Singh also raised the Kishtwar issue on the floor of house and demanded proactive response from the Government. As the State Government was not ready to give a statement on the issue the NPP legislators Harshdev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yashpal Kundal walked out of the House. Excep Ashok Khajuria the BJP legislators also walked out of the House. Khajuria joined the party colleagues after some time. The discussion along with the arguments and counter arguments led to delay in disruption in question hour in the House. It was only after 26 minutes that the question hour was taken with just a few questions being taken. The issue of firing on Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector also came up for discussion during the question hour. Harshdev said that some of reports suggested that Kargil type incursion has taken in the Keran sector with the other reports saying that Pakistan army is involved in gun fight with Indian soldiers near the LoC. He said that Pakistan army has intruded in the Shalbato and Jamagund villages in Keran sector and engaged in firing with Indian Army. Harshdev said that issue should not be taken lightly and the Government should come out with a statement on the issue that concerns the overall security of the country. |
