| Gandhi commission cross examines 94 witnesses, more people summoned | | Kishtwar violence probe | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, Oct 31: Justice Retired R C Gandhi commission appointed by the Jammu and Kashmir Government to probe into August 9th Kishtwar communal violence cross examined 94 witnesses in last three days and summoned over one dozen more witnesses to be cross examined tomorrow. As per the reports on the first day Gandhi commission examined 35 witnesses and 33 on the second day. The process continued on third day when 26 persons were examined. . The sources said that during the course of examination, the commission summoned nearly a dozen people for cross examination. In addition to fresh summoned issued today, the commission also summoned to 13 persons out of 107 who failed to appear before the commission. He also summoned 26 persons who submitted their affidavit with regard to losses. All the 51 persons will appear before the commission tomorrow. The sources added that after completing the cross examination, the commission will cross examine the senior police officers and former DC and SP Kishtwar who are presently under suspension. The sources added that after completing the cross examination, the commission will focus on drafting the final report with regard to his finding on Kishtwar violence The sources added that commission is hopeful that all the agencies will cooperate with them for speedy disposal of the inquiry assigned to the commission by the government. They added that the commission has also written a letter to senior officers of CID department seeking details of inputs shared by their ground level employees posted in Kishtwar District with regard to the possibility of communal clashes in Kishtwar. The government order further reads that the Commission will also enquire into the circumstances which led to the violence and arson and the consequent loss of life and property in District Kishtwar and also the administrative lapses, if any, while handling the situation. Justice Gandhi in his inquiry will also fix the responsibility for the acts of violence, arson and the loss of life and property. |
