| AMCCC asks Committee members to talk to stake holders, leave out irrelevant people | | Proposed visit of Parliamentary Standing Committee comes in for sharp criticism | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 31: The proposed three day visit of 11 members Sub Committee of Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on Home Affairs from November 5 to study problems being faced by migrants and refugees in the state has come in for criticism from one of the prominent migrant organizations. All Migrant Camps Coordination Committee (AMCCC) has said that the members of Sub Committee should talk to concerned stake holders instead of talking to hand-picked members of Kashmiri Pandit community. The AMCCC has asked the Sub Committee members to move away from stated position and do some real work for the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits. "In the past visits of various committee members were limited to holding parleys with Kashmiri Pandit leaders who don't have a say within the community. Such leaders are adding to confusion and have no consideration for the problems of Kashmiri Pandit community. If the members of PSC Sub Committee want to talk then they should talk to the affected families of Kashmiri Pandit community so that there is some relief for them," said Desh Ratan Pandita, chairman AMCCC while sharing his views with Early Times. Pandita said that the PSC Sub Committee should keep their word and visit some of the migrant camps set up in different areas of Jammu division. He said the members should listen and understand the Kashmiri Pandit youth who were appointed in government departments under the Prime Minister's rehabilitation package. "The problems being faced by appointees should reach the desired quarters so that there is some relief at the end of the day. Otherwise the visit would be one among the various visits carried out by New Delhi based politicians. The members of PSC Sub Committee should avoid talking to Kashmiri Pandits who have backing of various mainstream political parties," said AMCCC chairman. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha Member, Rajiv Partap Rudy is the convener of PSC while as Congress MP Naveen Jindal is its co-convener. The Sub Committee will visit the state for three days from November 5 to November 7. The PSC members will visit Kashmir valley on November 5 to inspect the transit accommodations provided to displaced employees appointed under PM's employment package at Vessu and Haal in South Kashmir. The PSC Sub Committee members will reach Jammu on November 6 and take stock of problems of West Pakistan refugees, PoK refugees and displaced people from Valley by visiting the migrant camps and refugee camps on November 6 and 7. Pandita took a dig at the people who say that Kashmiri Pandits can easily come back to Kashmir saying that the land belonging to Kashmiri Pandits in the country side has either already been sold or encroached by land mafia. He said these people among the community are not aware about ground situation and are playing to galleries by saying that time is conducive for return of Kashmiri Pandits to Kashmir valley. "Some of the self-styled leaders of Kashmiri Pandit community who come here as tourists give an impression that all is well for the return of Kashmiri Pandits. Truth of matter is that agricultural and horticultural land of Kashmiri Pandits has either been sold or encroached. Given this situation there is no future of Kashmiri Pandits and mere statements are being issued by people who have nothing to do with this whole issue," said AMCCC chairman. |
