| Security apprehensions brew as non locals grab state land along IB | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 31: Besides repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan, villagers along IB have been apprehensive of grave security risk in the wake of encroachment of hundreds of kanals of strategic state land along the International Border in Kathua by non local nomads who have migrated of late from hilly areas. According to reports hundreds of kanals of State land has been encroached by nomads from other districts in twin border villages Manyari and Pansari in Kathua district. The nomads have constructed their Jughis in these villages on State land which is very close to International Border (IB). According to sources, the people living in these border villages are totally concerned about the grabbing of State land along border villages by the non local people and apprehend security risk in view of the infiltration from across the border. The border villagers apprehend that these non locals can easily be used as canon fodder by infiltrators from across and take shelter in their camps before indulging in subversive activities, sources added. Sources said recently in Panyari village these non locals protested against the installation of temporary camp by Territorial Army on the State land where these non local land grabbers have constructed their jugghis. These land grabbers also protested against the local Sarpanch of Panyari and thrashed him. The issue was taken up with the local police and administration and later a team of police from Kathua along with Revenue officers visited the area and they helped the Territorial Army in establishment of the temporary camp there. However, they could not evict the land grabbers from the area. Sources said while 150 kanals of land have been grabbed in Manyari over 300 kanals of State land has been grabbed in Pansar by these non local nomads and the administration has failed to get this land vacated which is meant for the grazing of cattle. Sources said the people have urged the administration to restore entire State land in the district from the clutches of land grabbers and ensure its status quo. Sources said that the non locals having nither any identification nor proper address can easily become a conduit for the enemy agents sneaking in this part of the country from across and prove a security risk in view of the last month's Fidayeen attacks at Police Station Hiranagar and army camp at Samba. Sources said there are reports that many non locals have settled along the river basins in Kathua and Samba districts for years together and without their proper identification, sources said, adding the people have demanded that these non locals be fully identified and repatriated to their original districts. Sources said the Government instead of allowing these people to construct their Jugghis and temporary camps near border villages can shift them to other areas away from border as the same is must for the security of the State and its people. |
