| Rate of conviction 70% in 2012: SP | | `CBI is embarrassed in JK' | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Oct 31: CBI has faced embarrassment in the state like Jammu and Kashmir being a special state as there is no perfect way for valuation of property. This was stated by the SP Central Bureau of Investigation while interacting with media persons here today. As an year ender, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) J&K Chapter today projecting its functioning claimed that the probing agency registered 20 cases and disposed them off accordingly while 25 are under investigation ( 15 in Jammu). Further for the last 24 years the CBI Jammu has laid twelve trap cases from each central government departments only. While there are about 6000 cases pending across India due to shortage of staff. A senior CBI official said today that a quarter of freshly received cases till October in the ensuing year are related to corruption, forgery and disproportionate assets, adding, CBI has faced embarrassment in the state like Jammu and Kashmir being a special state as there is no perfect way for valuation of property. During this year 2013 till today, 20 cases were disposed off in the shape of conviction, acquittal, and discharge after trial. However, in last year 25 cases were challaned in which ratio of conviction goes to 70%. Sharing the details with media persons during an interaction organized as a part of ongoing Vigilance Awareness Week being observed from Oct 28-Oct 2013, SP CBI Dr Armaan Deep Singh Abrar said, "CBI too has organized various activities to observe Vigilance Awareness Week as decided by Central Vigilance Organization. In his interaction ACB CBI said that most of the complaints were of corruption made by the employees of the state government which could not be entertained as CBI deals with the central government employees and it only interferes if the state authorities urge to take up an exceptional case or corruption or a mysterious killing. On corruption, he said that the weeding of this menace could only be possible through moral education to the young generation and for the purpose educational institutions have to play a pivotal role. ACB CBI said that the Vigilance Awareness Week in this year has special significance for CBI as it falls in the 50th year of establishment of CBI and as such various activities to highlight the role of CBI in the service of nation are being organized and it was on 23.10.2013 that an essay competition on the topic 'Role and mandate of CBI in fighting Crime and Corruption' was organized in which around 50 schools and college students from the prominent institutions of Jammu participated .Prizes will be distributed to the winners of the competition and participation shall also be acknowledged, SP CBI said. Lectures on Role and contribution of Vigilance in promoting good governance is also a part of the week for spreading vigilance awareness. Earlier, also practical demonstration of the anti corruption activities undertaken by CBI were given to make the students of KV No2 Satwari Cantonment Jammu aware of the corruption. |
