JAMMU, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering Association shall be hosting the 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing (boys and girls) Championship from November 20 at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here.
Earlier postponed for certain reasons, the event shall now witness competition among over 200 participants drawn from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand besides host J&K.
Since the event meant for sub-junior climbers, only those born in 2000 and after are eligible to compete in both Lead and Speed climbing. The competition shall be conducted strictly following the IFSC rules and only fresh international standard climbing equipment shall be used.
To encourage small children to participate and win medals in the competition, the Association has also carved out 'Mini boys and girls' category (born in 2002 and after) out of the Sub Junior category. The winners of this category shall also be awarded.
"The championship carries prize money of Rs.30000 which shall be distributed equally between boys and girls. Almost all the prominent North Zone climbers including the national champion, Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab have confirmed their participation, so a keen tussle is on the cards in all the categories," general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria said.Whereas the specialized equipment is to be arranged by the Association, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee shall provide adequate technical support and a few officials including the president of jury, the chief route setter, judges and belayers. The Chairman IMF North Zone Committee, S. Bhattacharjee has also confirmed his availability during the competition. |
