Panchayat Phamranar's endless wait for polling station
10/31/2013 10:53:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, Oct 31: Strange it may sound but it is true that Panchayat Phamranar of village Gusai in Tehsil Mendhar which has as many as 1300 voters is still without a polling station.
Even after 65 years of independence, the voters have to cast their votes five kilometers away at Middle School Patti.
Even as the Phamranar panchayat has two primary schools and one middle school, the election authority did not bother to sanction a polling station at Phamranar.
The villagers said that the voters of this Panchayat face problems whenever they had to use their right to franchise. They said that despite repeated requests, the Government turned a deaf ear to their demand of setting up a polling station.
Ex-Havaldar Mohd Rashid, who is also a voter of this Panchayat, said that we even approached the leaders of Tehsil Mendhar but they made only false promises and never come back.
The locals of the area threatened that if a polling station is not announced for the Panchayat, they will boycott all future elections.
