| Congress pays floral tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 31: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 29th death anniversary at various function held across the State today.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) organized a function at the party headquarters Shahidi Chowk here today which was attended by senior functionaries of the PCC, district presidents, Ministers, legislators and office bearers of district and block committees besides members of other frontal organizations.
In connection with the 29th Death Anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a function was organized by the Pradesh Congress Committee at its HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu today.
Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz-MP President J&K PCC presided over the function while Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended. Besides senior leaders of PCC, Ministers, Legislators and leaders of frontal organizations were present in large number. Paying floral tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad recalled his association with Mrs. Gandhi, as he had privileged to work under her guidance in her cabinet. He praised her capabilities of leadership and said her revolutionary steps took the nation to new heights of progress and prosperity. She steered the country out of several challenges under her bold leadership. She sacrificed her life for the sake of unity and integrity of the nation. She will be ever remembered for her contribution towards strengthening the values of secularism, socialism and unity of the Country.
In his tributes to late leader Prof. Saifuddin Soz-President JKPCC described her as a dynamic and visionary leader under whose stewardship India emerged as a strong nation in the international arena, apart from achieving great success towards eradication of poverty & hunger. "She was the symbol of empowerment of women and launched various programmes for upliftment of weaker and deprived sections of the society, he said and recalled her keen interest for the development of the State and the overall affairs of Jammu and Kashmir and her bold initiatives to strengthen Congress party and also strengthening secular and democratic forces in the State. He specially mentioned her visionary initiative to link Jammu and Kashmir through railway by laying the railway project upto Udhampur which has now been linked up to the last corner of State.
Earlier President DCC Jammu Urban Om Chopra,Ex-MLA welcomed both leaders and paid tributes to Smt. Gandhi while Ravinder Sharma-MLC General Secretary & Spokesman PCC ably conducted the proceedings. Prominent among those attended the function included Tara Chand- Dy. Chief Minister, Madan Lal Sharma-MP, Dharam Pal Sharma & Mangat Ram Sharma(Senior Vice Presidents PCC), Sham Lal Sharma & Raman Bhalla (Ministers), Shabir Ahmed Khan- MOS for Health, Vice Presidents, former Ministers, General Secretaries, MLAs and others. Meanwhile in a similar occasion District Congress Committee Kishtwar under the chairmanship of Thakur Jugal Bhandari State Secretary Pradesh Jammu and Kashmir paid tributes to late leader. Speaking on the occasion Thakur said that leaders Like Indira Gandhi Ji will always remain in the heart of people. " She will be remembered for her sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation, speakers said |
