Srinagar, Dec 12 : A Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court has upheld life sentence awarded to one Mohammad Yousuf Lone, a resident of Kalaroos in Kupwara, by a trial court on 27 July 2010. Dismissing Lone's appeal, the division bench comprising Justices Virender Singh and Janak Raj Kotwal upheld the verdict announced by Sessions Court Kupwara while holding him guilty of murdering a man, Farooq Ahmad Tanki, from down town Srinagar in 1997. On 21 July 1997, about 4:30 pm, Mst Rubeena Kounsar, widow of Farooq Ahmad Tanki, a resident of Watal Kadal Srinagar, lodged written compliant in police post Kalaroos, alleging that her husband had stayed in the house of Mohammad Yousuf Lone (appellant) at Khanpora Kalaross and on fourth day, Lone took him to the residence of his friend. She said they stayed there for one day and in the next evening of next day, four persons came to said house, brought Farooq out of the house. Since then, she said, her husband's whereabouts were not known. Kounsar also said that she suspects that her husband has been killed by Lone and persons accompanying him. Subsequently, police filed an FIR and started investigation, calling Lone for questioning with regard to the case on 21-7-1997. Subsequently, according to the investigation by police, Lone disclosed location where Tanki's body was buried by him. Later police recovered the body and handed over the body to family for last rites after conducting all legal formalities.
