Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Dec 12: A day after the Police Chief removed beacon lights from his vehicle, a massive crackdown against violators was launched both by traffic and district police here in winter capital today. The crackdown started following Supreme Court's direction against misuse of beacon lights on government as well as private vehicles. If the sources are to be believed about 50 officials including bureaucrats, police, Public Service Commission officials and army personnel were told to remove beacon lights from their official vehicles. Much amazingly, among violators were of DySP rank persons. "Most of the vehicles having beacon light were of DySP rank person", a police officer giving information said. SSP Traffic Jammu Pawan Parihar when contacted said that from tomorrow, fine would be imposed to those officials who used red light atop on their official vehicles. Meanwhile, DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Beig, said that police shall launch a massive crackdown against violation of red lights on vehicle. DIG Jammu further said that as per the directions of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India only the specified high dignitaries would be authorized to use red lights on the top of their vehicles. As per the order the red lights can only be used on the vehicles by the Hon'ble Governor, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Hon'ble Chief Justice and Judges of High Court, Chairman, Speaker and Cabinet Ministers. In case of emergency duties such as Ambulance services, Fire Services, Emergency Maintenance and police vehicles used as escorts or pilots or for law and order duty shall be entitled to use blue, white and Multi-coloured lights only instead of Red Lights. Anybody violating the directions of Hon'ble Supreme court of India will be sternly punished under law by the local as well as traffic police. |
