| Mushtaq Peer appoints nephew illegally at University of Kashmir, shatters dream of deserving | | No account of his follies at varsity | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Although a probe has been ordered into the sale of question papers for Common Entrance Test (CET) by former Board of Professional Entrance Examinations, Mushtaq Ahmad Peer nothing of this sort has been ordered into the bunglings carried out by Peer during his tenure as Head of Computer Sciences Department, University of Kashmir. The former BOPEE Chairman made some illegal appointments in the Computer Sciences department while he was heading the department. One such appointment is of his nephew Muheet Ahmed Butt. An engineer by qualification Muheet was appointed as Scientist 'D' in the Post Graduate Department of Computer Science in October 2012 at the behest of Peer his maternal uncle. Sources told Early Times that Muheet was first appointed as System Analyst in the Examination wing by Peer while he was the HOD, Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, University of Kashmir. After creating mess in the Examination wing, Muheet was transferred to the Information Technology department in May 2012 by the present Controller of Examinations. "Peer Managed to accommodate Muheet in Post Graduate Department of Computer Science. The position of Scientist 'D' will be converted to Associate Professor grade. This is despite the fact that Muheet does not have eight years experience of teaching as the same is a pre-requisite for the Associate Professor position," said sources. Sources said that under the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines anyone who is appointed as Assistant Professor (formerly lecturer) in University/center can be promoted as Associate Professor provide he or she fulfills the necessary conditions. This is possible only after eight years of teaching experience and that the person vying for promotion has 300 APR (Annual Performance Report) points. Sources said that once the Assistant Professor fulfills the prescribed guidelines then only he or she can face interview only after which the eligible person can be promoted. The performance of Muheet at the varsity has been below par and despite this he is tipped to become Associate Professor all due to the influence of his maternal uncle. "Muheet has turned out to be a blue-eyed boy and despite objections to his appointment he continues to be in office at the varsity. His appointment shattered dreams of many aspiring computer professionals and at the end of the day there is no account of follies being carried out by university by Muheet's maternal uncle," said sources. Sources said that Peer purchased many defective computers for Computer Science department in lieu of hefty commission from the supplier of the computers. They said no probe has been ordered in this regard as well adding that Peer made merry out of the shady deals made with the supplier of computers. "The former BOPEE chairman broke all records of corruption and other malpractices at the varsity but still then no action was taken against him. Time has come when the former cases are opened so that truth prevails and punitive action is taken against Peer for bringing disrepute to the varsity," said sources. |
