| Overloading goes rampant on Sunderbani-Bhamwala road | | Traffic police turns Nelson’s eye | | Ajay Sharma
Katra, Dec 12 : The overloading of passenger vehicles, plying on Sunderbani-Bhamwala route is going on unabated for the last many months but the Traffic Police authorities have seemingly deliberately turned a Nelson’s eye towards this grave issue. Sarpanch of Bhamwala Kewal Krishan informed Early Times that around 25 passenger carry vehicles including buses and mini buses were given permit on Bhamwala-Sunderbani route. "But only 10 vehicles could be seen plying on the route and most of them remains overloaded", he said, adding that the law enforcing authorities only wake up after some road mishap. He further said that there were 4 Traffic Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police Nakas on the route but they never took action or impose penalty on violators. "There is a deep rooted nexus between Traffic police officials and bus/mini bus operators. The passenger vehicle operators give hefty amount to Traffic police and continue with overloading", he said. Another resident said that the traffic police officials on the route had been taking illegal entry fee from vehicle operators and allowed them to violate the norms. "The so called law protectors have himself, turned into law violators and have neck deep involved in corruption", he said, adding that they had already been apprised Inspector General of Traffic Police and other officials about the grave issue, but no action has been taken yet. Inspector General of Traffic Police Muneer Khan said that he was in Srinagar and would take proper action after reaching Jammu. "If need arise the entire traffic staff deputed on the route would be transferred", he said, and assured that the problem would be addressed. |
